Sycamore press: The Line of Best Fit has published a nice review of Sycamore, writing that "this is the Big Music: room-filling swells of sound, at once obviously made from guitars, yet rising beyond the medium to scrape at something else." There are more great reviews from XLR8R and Exclaim.ca, and an in-depth interview over on Tokafi talking about the making of the album. New Release: Sycamore, the debut album of the duo of David Daniell and Douglas McCombs was officially released by the Thrill Jockey record label on August 18th. I IV V I - part of Table of the Elements' Guitar Series volumes 3 & 4. Table of the Elements celebrates its 15th anniversary with a follow-up to the label's groundbreaking 1993 7" releases (Guitar Series 1 & 2). The new releases are single-sided, 12-inch LPs, pressed on clear and colored vinyl, with original etchings on the reverse by acclaimed UK illustrator Savage Pencil, known for his contributions to The Wire and Forced Exposure and album covers for The Fall, Big Black, Sonic Youth, and Rocket from the Crypt. Boomkat writes about I IV V I: "This latest emission spans four tracks, ranging in stylistic diversity from epic layered drone scapes to virtuosic Takoma-style fingerpicking... there's a refinement and attention to detail here that goes way above the call of duty. In production terms the LP sounds beautiful..." and Mimaroglu Music Sales has this to say: "each section comes across as fully formed, as a whole it's a pretty damn breathtaking set of pieces... this is inarguably the highlight of the series thusfar... highly recommended!!!"
